PayPay Corporation (the company), which plays a central role in terms of the payment platform among SoftBank Group companies, was today registered as a Type A payment business operator (cashless issuer) and a Type B payment business operator (cashless merchant store-supporting provider) in the “Point Reward Project for Consumers using Cashless Payment” (the Project) implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. In response to the registration, from mid-June 2019, the company will start accepting the registration of PayPay merchants and small and medium-sized and small-scale business operators that are subject to the Project.
The Project aims to support small and medium-sized and small-scale business operators to give point rewards to consumers using cashless payments, for nine months from October 2019 to June 2020, in line with the consumption tax rate hike on October 1, 2019. The Project also aims to equalize demand, improve the productivity of relevant business operators, and increase the convenience of consumers through further dissemination of cashless payments.
The company has striven so far to expand merchant stores by establishing our sales bases at 20 locations across the country in order to promote cashless payments in small and medium-sized and small-scale business operators where cash payments were mainstream as well as large-scale commercial facilities and organized stores. Through the Project, we aim to further promote cashless payments in small and medium-sized business operators, provide users with great shopping experiences with discounts, and improve convenience by expanding PayPay merchant stores.
