PayPay to run “40% Return” Campaign at 6,500 or more famous eating-and-drinking chain stores nationwide!

PayPay Corporation (“PayPay Corp.”, “we”), a joint venture of SoftBank Group Corp., SoftBank Corp., and Yahoo Japan Corporation, will run a “40% Return” Campaign” at 6,500 or more famous eating-and-drinking chain stores nationwide (grant cap: equivalent to JPY 500 per payment, JPY 1,500 per campaign period). During the campaign, users get a PayPay Bonus (*2) of 40% of a payment amount if they make a payment with PayPay (*1) at one of 6,500 or more eligible restaurants and 210,000 vending machines nationwide. This campaign will be run as a part of the “Always, Somewhere WAKUWAKU PayPay” campaign (in February 2020) — a series of campaigns, which always offer special benefits somewhere in Japan, for users of the PayPay service. In March, a campaign that allows the users to shop at the eligible supermarkets with special benefits is scheduled to be run.

This campaign will be run in partnership with popular and famous eating-and-drinking chain stores in order to make people feel something familiar to cashless payments. We will run the campaign for the purpose of encouraging people who have never used “PayPay” to use it at this opportunity and encouraging people who have used “PayPay” to use it more.

Since the “PayPay” service was launched in October 2018, the number of cumulative registered users has exceeded 23 million and the number of merchants has exceeded 1.85 million (*3). Furthermore, PayPay was awarded as the top for “Top Free App Ranking”, as the most downloaded app in 2019, in “Best of 2019 Top App Ranking.” In addition, “〇〇Pay” was nominated as the top 10 of he 2019 U-Can New Words Buzzword Awards selected by the Gendaiyōgo no kiso chishiki (Basic knowledge of current terminology), and “PayPay” was awarded as a representative. Thus, PayPay has grown into a cashless payment service used throughout Japan.

In addition, a granted PayPay bonus can be used in online shops such as PayPay official stores and PayPay Mall. We hope that people use “PayPay” online and enjoy shopping with “PayPay”, which can be used anytime and anywhere.

PayPay Corp. will continue to provide the convenience of smartphone payments to all retailers, service providers as well as users, while aiming to achieve a society where they can do cashless shopping anywhere in Japan, with a sense of security. In addition, we will upgrade the PayPay app from a “payment” app into a “Super app” that helps to make users’ lives richer and more convenient and to foster a perspective “shop and pay anytime, anywhere with PayPay.”

2. Stores and places eligible for the campaign:

Stores and places of the following eligible brands in which PayPay payments are available are eligible for the campaign. (However, some stores are not eligible. For more Details, please check a campaign website scheduled to be released later.) Also, when users tap “Nearby Shops” to open a map, the icon shown on the right is displayed at eligible stores during the campaign period.

3. Campaign Details:

If users pay with PayPay Balance at the eligible stores and places during the campaign period, they will get a PayPay Bonus of 40% of a payment amount (payments by credit cards including Yahoo Cards are not eligible for the campaign). In addition, users of “Yahoo! Premium Members” will be given a PayPay Bonus equivalent to up to 50% of a payment (*1).

*1 SoftBank smartphone users and Y! Mobile smartphone users will be given a PayPay Bonus equivalent to up to 50% of a payment. As for SoftBank smartphone users, those who have linked a PayPay user ID with a Yahoo! JAPAN ID for which smart log-in has been set up are eligible for the campaign. As for “Y! mobile” smartphone users, those who have linked a PayPay user ID with a Yahoo! JAPAN ID that has been linked link with a Y mobile contract phone number are eligible for the campaign. Those who cannot use the smart log-in or the initial registration of the Y!-mobile service, such as corporate contract customers and customers using some terminals are not eligible for the campaign. *2 “Yahoo Card” is a nickname of “Yahoo! JAPAN Card”. Payments by “Yahoo Card” and other credit cards and payments by the Alipay (支付宝) app are not eligible for this campaign.

4. Bonus cap:

PayPay Bonus cap per payment: Equivalent to JPY 500

Total amount cap of PayPay Bonuses granted during the campaign: Equivalent to JPY 1,500

5. Planned PayPay Bonus granting date:

30 days after the day following the payment date

* In addition, if another campaign sponsored by PayPay Corporation or cosponsored with other companies is implemented during the campaign period, only a campaign in which a granted amount is the most favorable will be applied, depending on the status of a person who has used PayPay.

* A PayPay Bonus can be also used at official PayPay stores. It is allowed neither to cash a PayPay Bonus in PayPay Balance to credit the cashed PayPay Bonus to a bank account nor to transfer a PayPay Balance to another person.
