PayPay Corporation, a joint venture between Softbank Group Corp., Softbank Corp., and Yahoo Japan Corporation, will start providing “PayPay” as one of the payment methods for the “Uber Eats” app as well as online services provided by Uber Technologies, Inc. as of the 4th of May 2020. It will become available in Osaka and Kyoto Prefectures on May 4th, and in all existing service areas excluding Tokyo, Chiba and Saitama Prefectures on May 8th. Tokyo, Chiba and Saitama Prefectures will become available on May 15th, upon which, payment by “PayPay” will be enabled in all “Uber Eats” service areas. In addition, “Uber Eats” will be added to “PayPay” as a “Mini App (*1)” – a super app feature – after June, which will be the first delivery service to be launched as a “Mini App.”

The number of merchants that support “PayPay”, a smartphone payment app, has reached more than
2.2 million (*2) nationwide, and it still continues to increase, supporting more stores and features including online services and bill payments. Due to the recent declaration of the state of emergency to prevent the spread of COVID-19, many restaurants have started to provide take-out & delivery services. By enabling “PayPay” as a payment method for “Uber Eats,” we believe that an increasing number of users will be able to enjoy their meals at home.
In addition, “PayPay” payments with “Uber Eats” will be eligible for “PayPay STEP” which enables users to enjoy shopping with “PayPay” in an even more beneficial way.
Building upon the “payment” feature already enjoyed by many users, “PayPay” will continue to increase the lineup of features and services achievable only through a smartphone including financial services and other “Mini App” features that enables everything from order to payment and in doing so, establish “anywhere, anytime, with PayPay”, a world where anyone can feel free to go shopping anywhere in Japan without any cash in hand.
*1: A feature in which users are able to reserve, order and pay for products/services provided by our partner companies within the PayPay app.
*2: The number of stores and taxi companies which applied for the “PayPay” merchant agreement, as of April 26th.
