PayPay supports payment for online medical treatment and medication guidance at hostipals and pharmacies

- Helping to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection by making it easier for hospitals and pharmacies to adopt online payments -

PayPay Corporation, a joint venture between Softbank Group Inc., Softbank Corp., and Yahoo Japan Corporation, will begin offering a simple online payment feature using PayPay for online medical treatment and medication guidance via video calls starting from June 1, 2020.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) has announced temporary and special measures (*1) for medical treatment using smartphones and other communication devices in response to the growing demand for online medical treatment with an aim to address the expansion of COVID-19 infections.

PayPay will lower the bar for hospitals to start using online payment systems, providing a simple method to easily provide online medical care and medication guidance for as many users as possible.

After providing consultation and medication guidance through a video call, hospitals registered as PayPay merchants can present PayPay’s special QR code, used only for online medical services, to the user and receive the consultation/prescription fees via PayPay on the spot. (*2) In addition, users can receive medical consultations and medication guidance from a doctor via video calls or other means from the comfort of their own homes, while avoiding the risk of infection at hospitals or pharmacies.

No development or initial costs are required for implementing the payment system. Moreover, there are no payment system usage fees to use PayPay to pay for medical consultations and medication guidance. (*3).
