Support your local stores! PayPay to host the “Machi-no PayPay Matsuri”

PayPay Corporation (hereinafter PayPay), a joint venture of SoftBank Group Corp., SoftBank Corp. and Yahoo Japan Corporation, will be hosting the “Machi-no PayPay Matsuri” to help boost local economies across Japan and to keep true to the goal of being a service that closely supports both merchants and users, given the severe impact COVID-19 has had on local economies. As part of the “Machi-no PayPay Matsuri,” a “Support the local stores! Up to 1,000 yen worth, 20% back” campaign (*) offering great deals at merchants nationwide that have opted to participate will be available between September 13and November 28, 2021.

By using the cashless payment service “PayPay” to complete a payment at merchants nationwide, users will receive a PayPay Bonus of up to 20% of the amount paid. In addition, first-time users of “PayPay” or users who have not used “PayPay” over the past six months will receive an additional 20% PayPay Bonus (up to 40%).
Furthermore, a “Machi-no PayPay Matsuri: Signup Benefits” campaign involving the grant of a PayPay Bonus worth 500 yen to users who sign up to “PayPay” and complete their “identity verification (eKYC)” application, and a “Machi-no PayPay Matsuri: Refer-a-Friend” campaign involving the grant of a PayPay Bonus worth 500 yen each to both the referrer and the referred in the event that a “PayPay” user refers “PayPay” to a friend or family member who has not used “PayPay” yet and who then proceeds to satisfy the conditions of the campaign, will be hosted at the same time.
There are further campaigns also in the making for October and onwards that will offer great deals when shopping.

Campaign details:

A PayPay Bonus of up to 20% of the amount paid will be granted by completing a “PayPay” payment at an applicable store during the campaign. In addition, first-time users of “PayPay” (*1) or users who have not used “PayPay” over the past six months (*2) will receive an additional 20% PayPay Bonus (up to 40%).
Please note that the grant limit is 1,000 yen equivalent per time or 1,000 yen equivalent in total during the campaign.

*1: Users who have completed their account registration via SMS authentication and sign up to “PayPay” for the first time between August 25 – November 28, 2021.
*2: Users who have made zero “PayPay” payments between March 1 – September 12, 2021 (including users who have made zero payments before September 12, 2021 after signing up; the payment history can be checked from the “History” icon in the app)

Campaign details:

A PayPay Bonus worth 500 yen will be granted to users who sign up to “PayPay” (*1) and complete their “identity verification (eKYC)” application (*2) during the campaign.

*1: Current “PayPay” users or users who have signed up to “PayPay” at some point in the past are not eligible for this campaign. (Past users who terminated their “PayPay” account more than 180 days ago will be eligible for this campaign should they sign up again)
*2: The benefits of this campaign will be granted only after the “identity verification (eKYC)” is completed. If the application for the “identity verification (eKYC)” is completed during the campaign, said user will be eligible to receive the benefits even if the verification is completed after the campaign ends. The campaign will not be applied if there are any issues with the contents of the “identity verification (eKYC)” application. Notwithstanding this, if a user completes their “identity verification (eKYC)” application during the campaign and later re-submits the “identity verification (eKYC)” application before November 14, 2021 in the event an issue is identified, said user will become eligible for the campaign upon completion of the verification and will receive the PayPay Bonus in due time after the verification is completed.

The benefits will be granted sequentially after September 1. For those whose verification is completed in a particular month, the benefits will be granted by the middle of the following month. An SMS will be sent once the grant is completed.

Applicable merchants:

A PayPay Bonus worth up to 5000 yen will granted to both the referrer and the referred in the event that a PayPay user supplies a referral code to someone who has not yet used “PayPay,” and who then proceeds to satisfy the following three conditions during the campaign.
① Sign up to PayPay and create an account
② Enter the referral code in the PayPay app during the campaign
③ Complete a payment of more than 1,000 yen (per payment) using “PayPay” during the campaign after entering the referral code (*1)

Applicable users :

・The referrer:
A user who has already verified their identity (*2) and whose friend or family member they refer satisfies the campaign conditions ① ② and ③ above.
・The referred:
A user that satisfies the campaign conditions ① ② and ③ above during the campaign.

Grant limit:

・The referrer: Up to ten people may be referred during the campaign; 500 yenworthwill be granted per referred person that satisfies the conditions.
・The referred: Up to 500 yen worth (*3)

Grant date:

The PayPay Bonus will be granted 30 days from the next day after the payment that satisfies the campaign conditions (*4). The status of the grant of the campaign benefits can be checked from within the PayPay app, and the referrer will receive an in-app push notification once the referred satisfies the campaign conditions.

*1: With regard to conditions ② and ③; the campaign will be applied only by completing ③ after completing ②. The first payment of 1,000 yen or more using “PayPay” after satisfying condition ② will be counted as the qualifying payment for condition ③. Should the qualifying payment for condition ③ be canceled, the user will not receive the benefits of the campaign.
*2: Only those users whose identity verification has been completed, either through registering a bank account or through verifying their identity using face recognition and identification documents, are eligible. Please see here on how to complete identity verification. In addition, it takes between 4 to 24 hours after the identity verification is completed to become eligible for the campaign.
*3: The total grant limit of general rewards campaigns (excluding lottery campaigns) is 66.5% of the total amount paid. In the event that each campaign is applied in duplicate and the total grant exceeds 66.5% of the total amount paid, the grant for the “Refer-a-Friend Campaign” will be reduced. Please note that the reduction of the amount granted by the “Refer-a-Friend Campaign” will only apply to the referred, since the payment must be made by the referred.
*4: The timing of the grant may be delayed due to the user’s status or system related circumstances. PayPay Bonus can also be used at official PayPay and YJ Card stores. Please note that it cannot be cashed out or sent to other users. If the referred terminates their account before the grant date after fulfilling the conditions, both the referrer and the referred will not receive the PayPay Bonus.

* There are four types of PayPay balance in “PayPay”: PayPay Money, PayPay Money Lite, PayPay Bonus and PayPay Bonus Lite. PayPay Money can be used to pay for partner services and merchants if it is within the amount deposited into the PayPay account opened after completing an identity verification process. It can also be used for sending and receiving money between PayPay users free of charge. PayPay Money can also be cashed out to a designated bank account (no withdrawal fee if using PayPay Bank). The legal nature of this is an electromagnetic record which can be used to pay for goods and other services, and can be remitted or cashed out, issued by the Company who is a Fund Transfer Operator registered under Article 37 of the Payment Services Act. Based on the provision of Article 43 of the Payment Services Act, PayPay preserves the debt it owes to its users in full amount and more by depositing its assets. However, PayPay Bonus and PayPay Bonus Lite cannot be sent or transferred between PayPay users or be cashed out. PayPay Bonus Lite has an expiration date, after which date it will expire.
We also strive to create a safe and secure environment for our users. If an unexpected payment is made by a third person using your PayPay account, or if a payment is charged from PayPay even though you do not have a PayPay account, you will be able to receive compensation for the amount of the damages sustained (in the case of receiving compensation from a third party, the amount of compensation is deducted) on the assumption that the prescribed compensation conditions are met.
