PayPay Launches TOHO Cinemas Mini App for Purchasing Movie Tickets

TOHO Cinemas Ltd. and PayPay Corporation are pleased to announce that from April 21, 2022, the TOHO Cinemas mini app*1 will be launched, allowing users to purchase movie tickets sold by TOHO Cinemas Ltd. from the PayPay app, a cashless payment service.

“TOHO Cinemas” will be rolled out in conjunction with a campaign by SoftBank Corp., “SoftBank Cinema Discount,” for customers using SoftBank smartphones*2, in which users receive a 200 yen*3 discount on weekdays and weekends on tickets bought via the mini app. In addition, PayPay Corporation will concurrently launch the “TOHO Cinemas Mini App PayPay Jumbo!”*4 where users could be granted the full amount of their purchases in PayPay Points*4 via a lottery (grant limit: 30,000 yen worth/draw or period). Please take advantage of this opportunity to try the TOHO Cinemas mini app.

With the launch of this mini app, users will be able to purchase movie tickets from the “TOHO Cinemas” icon in the PayPay app for 70 theaters nationwide, operated by TOHO Cinemas Ltd. (including TOHO Cinemas LaLaport Fukuoka, which opens on April 25)*6 *7. The mini app allows users to complete everything from seat reservations to ticket purchases, making it easier to enjoy going to the movies. In addition, “PayPay” will be available on the online ticket reservation site “vit®” operated by TOHO Cinemas Ltd.

*1. A mini app is a feature that allows users to smoothly make reservations, order products, and purchase services provided by PayPay Corporation’s partner companies from the PayPay app.

*2. SoftBank smartphone users are eligible only if they have linked their PayPay account with a smart login enabled Yahoo! JAPAN ID. Corporate customers, users using particular devices, and users who are unable to use smart login are not eligible. Some data plans do not apply. “This service is not available for Y!mobile, LINEMO, and LINE MOBILE users.

*3. High school students and younger are not eligible. Up to two tickets can be purchased with one payment. This cannot be combined with other discount services. For more details, please visit here.

*4. Both campaigns will not be applied to purchases through the online ticket reservation site “vit®.” The campaign contents and applicable conditions are subject to change without notice. In addition, the campaign itself may be postponed or cancelled without notice.

*5. The granted PayPay Points can be used at any official PayPay store or PayPay Card store. Please note that it cannot be cashed out or sent to other users.

*6. Only PayPay Balance payments are accepted. Credit card payments including PayPay Card, PayPay Atobarai (Pay Later), and PayPay Atobarai (lump-sum payments only) are not accepted.

*7. When users use the service for the first time, they will be asked to provide part of the information they have registered in “PayPay” that is necessary for using the service. Only users who agree to providing this information to TOHO Cinemas Ltd. and SoftBank Corp. can use the service.

During the campaign a lottery will be triggered when users purchase tickets via the TOHO Cinemas mini app. First prize winners will receive PayPay Points of up to 100% of the total payment amount, second prize winners up to 10%, and third prize winners up to 1%.

* “PayPay” provides 4 types of PayPay balance: PayPay Money, PayPay Money Lite, PayPay Points and PayPay Bonus Lite. PayPay Money can be used to pay for partner services and merchants if it is within the amount deposited into the PayPay account opened after completing an identity verification process. It can also be used for sending and receiving money between PayPay users free of charge. PayPay Money can also be cashed out to a designated bank account (no withdrawal fee if using PayPay Bank). However, PayPay Bonus and PayPay Bonus Lite cannot be sent or transferred between PayPay users or be cashed out. PayPay Bonus Lite has an expiration date, after which date it will no longer be valid.
PayPay also strives to create a safe and secure environment for users. If an unexpected payment is made by a third party using a PayPay account, or if a request to settle a payment suddenly arrives from PayPay to a user that does not have a PayPay account, there is a scheme that ensures compensation for the damages suffered (the difference will be provided as compensation if compensation is also provided by a third party), given that the prescribed conditions are met.
