PayPay Corporation (hereinafter PayPay), PayPay Card Corporation (hereinafter PayPay Card), LY Corporation (hereinafter LY), and SoftBank Corporation (hereinafter SoftBank) are set to launch a large-scale promotion that allows savings on purchases at PayPay merchants nationwide and online stores called “Cho PayPay Matsuri” (Super PayPay Festival) from December 2, 2024.

With over 66 million PayPay users,*1 this Cho PayPay Matsuri will once again provide opportunities for significant savings on purchases through the services available on the PayPay app and “Yahoo! JAPAN”. PayPay will hold the “PayPay Scratch Lottery,” where users who have completed their identity verification (eKYC) will have a one-in-four chance of winning a prize by paying 200 yen or more with “PayPay,”*2 tapping the scratch card, and scratching it off. If paid with “PayPay Credit,” the odds increase to one-in-two. Note that the winning probability is per draw and does not guarantee a win each time.

In addition to the “PayPay Scratch Lottery” for PayPay payments, this promotional campaign will offer the “PayPay Card Scratch Lottery” for the first time, in which users can participate by paying with PayPay Card (including PayPay Card Gold) that has 12.54 million members *3. Users can get more scratch cards by using PayPay and PayPay Card depending on which payment method is accepted at stores. PayPay and PayPay Card will further enhance collaboration to provide users with a more convenient and profitable cashless experience. Furthermore, SoftBank users who pay with PayPay Credit are guaranteed to win one of the three prizes on the “PayPay Scratch Lottery,”*4 and SoftBank’s Pay-toku users are 10x more likely to win first prize by paying with PayPay Credit.*5For more details, please refer to the “FList of Promotions To Be Held by PayPay and PayPay Card” below. JAPAN Shopping’s Cho PayPay Matsuri period from 12 p.m. on December 2 until 1:59 a.m. on December 23, users who meet certain criterias, such as pre-promotion purchases, can receive PayPay Points worth up to 23.5% of the purchase price*6 when shopping within the last two days (plus two hours) from 12 a.m. of December 21 to 1:59 a.m. of Deccember 23. The official names of these promotional campaigns are “PayPay Scratch Lottery” (December 2024 to January 2025)” and “PayPay Card Scratch Lottery” (December 2024 to January 2025).

Users who have completed eKYC with PayPay will be eligible to participate in the “PayPay Scratch Lottery” at participating stores, where users will have a 1 in 4 chance of winning first to third prize by paying 200 yen or more with “PayPay,”*2 tapping the scratch card, and scratching it off. Depending on payment methods and other factors, scratch cards of different colors will appear on the payment completion screen, and first prize winners will receive PayPay Points worth the full payment amount (100%).*9 If paid with “PayPay Credit,” the odds increase to one-in-two. SoftBank users who pay with PayPay Credit are guaranteed to win one of the first to third prizes in the “PayPay Scratch Lottery” (*4).*4 In addition, SoftBank’s “Pay-toku” users who pay with PayPay Credit have 10 times the chances of winning first prize.*5 Note that the winning probability is per draw and does not guarantee a win each time.
Users who have completed eKYC with “PayPay” can participate in the “PayPay Card Scratch Lottery” offered by PayPay Card by paying 200 yen or more with PayPay Card at participating stores (credit card merchants) *10. Users who have enabled push notifications in the PayPay app will receive a usage notification after making a payment with PayPay Card. By tapping the notification, a scratch card will appear on the screen. *When setting up a SoftBank phone, users must link their SoftBank mobile number with their PayPay account, or link their PayPay account with a Yahoo! JAPAN ID that has completed the Smart Login setup. “Pay-toku” users are users who have subscribed to SoftBank’s “Pay-toku” plan and will need to link their PayPay app with their SoftBank mobile number account.

Users can apply for eKYC with “PayPay” in as little as two minutes by scanning the IC chip of a My Number Card or driver’s license.*11 Once eKYC is completed, they will be able to top up their PayPay Balance from their bank account, use PayPay Money, gain access to a wider number of stores where they can use “PayPay,” and increase the limit of their PayPay Credit payments. During the campaign period, payments with “PayPay” or Yahoo Shopping Gift Vouchers will be granted 5% with the “5% Every Day for LINE Account Linkage”, and LYP Premium members will receive an additional 2% for a total of 7% “PayPay Points” daily. * “PayPay” offers four types of electronic money and other services: PayPay Money, PayPay Money Lite, PayPay Points, and PayPay Gift Vouchers.
PayPay Money can be used to pay for partner services and merchants if it is within the amount deposited into the PayPay account opened after completing an identity verification process. It can also be used for sending and receiving money between PayPay users free of charge. PayPay Money can also be cashed out to a designated bank account (no withdrawal fee if using PayPay Bank). The legal nature of this is an electromagnetic record which can be used to pay for goods and services, can be remitted or cashed out, and is issued by PayPay who is a Fund Transfer Operator registered under Article 37 of the Payment Services Act. PayPay also strives to create a safe and secure environment for users. If an unexpected payment is made by a third party using a PayPay account, or if a request to settle a payment suddenly arrives from PayPay to a user that does not have a PayPay account, there is a scheme that ensures compensation for the damages suffered (the difference will be provided as compensation if compensation is also provided by a third party), given that the prescribed conditions are met.
