PayPay Corporation (hereinafter “PayPay”) is pleased to announce that out of the 73 million registered users*1 of its cashless payment service “PayPay,” 40 million have completed identity verification in March 2026.
By completing identity verification, users can transfer PayPay Money to their linked bank accounts and withdraw cash at ATMs nationwide, and they can also top up from bank accounts. “PayPay” is connected to approximately 1,000 financial institutions, including all regional banks across all 47 prefectures in Japan, enabling users to top up smoothly from bank accounts they regularly use. These characteristics of the app enhances the convenience of users’ fund management and payments in everyday life. In addition, the payment service accommodates high-value purchases, with a limit of 1 million yen per transaction when paying with the red screen (PayPay Balance), and up to the user’s PayPay Card credit limit when using the blue screen (PayPay Credit).
Furthermore the Overseas Payment Mode was launched in September 2025, making the use of “PayPay” possible in South Korea for payments and peer-to-peer transfers,*2 thereby providing a safe and seamless cashless payment method when traveling abroad.

PayPay regards the promotion of identity verification (eKYC) as one of its key initiatives to counter criminal activity and unauthorized use, and to that end, to strengthen anti-money laundering (AML) and counter financing of terrorism (CFT) measures. This has resulted in the service reaching 40 million users with their identities verified. Currently, users who have completed identity verification account for 87.8% of the total payment volume and 85.8% of transaction count,*3 and this highly secure payment infrastructure is steadily expanding. As a digital financial platform used by 73 million people, PayPay will continue to encourage identity verification and provide safer and more secure financial services.

In addition, in the event of damage caused by unauthorized use, procedures and confirmation will require additional time if identity verification has not been completed. 【What users can do after completing identity verification】
To enable a greater number of users to use PayPay safely with better convenience, PayPay is conducting a campaign between February 5 and May 31, 2026 that grants 100 PayPay Points to all users who complete PayPay’s identity verification for the first time.
– Campaign period: Until 11:59 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2026.
– Eligibility: Users who complete identity verification for the first time in the PayPay app during the campaign period.
– Grant limit: 100 yen/period.
– Scheduled grant date: In principle, after completion of identity verification.
* The campaign period and time may be changed without prior notice.
* The grant is limited to one time per person.
* Granted PayPay Points can also be used in the PayPay Official Store and the PayPay Card Official Store. However, they cannot be cashed out or transferred.
* Regarding the granting of points, the timing of the grant may be delayed due to the customer’s usage status or PayPay’s systems. The grant history can be checked by tapping the History icon in the PayPay app.
PayPay will continue to provide services as a safer and more secure infrastructure to users who have completed identity verification (eKYC). In addition, to enable a safer and securer use for identity-verified accounts, PayPay aims to create an environment in which the identity verification information is utilized not only for its own services, but also for login functions of various other services, as well as procedures for editing personal information.
