Rewarding of PayPay Bonuses for Payments at Stores Eligible for the Point Reward Project for Consumers using Cashless Payment promoted by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry

PayPay Corporation, a joint venture of by SoftBank Group Corp., SoftBank Corp., and Yahoo Japan Corporation, announces determined details such as a method of rewarding to users who have paid with PayPay in the Point Reward Project for Consumers using Cashless Payment (hereinafter the “Project”). (*1).

In the Project, the government supports point rewards when consumers make cashless payments at restaurants, retail stores, service providers, and so on run by small and medium-sized businesses, for nine months from October 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020, in line with the consumption tax hike on October 1, 2019. The Government of Japan earmarked a 279. 8 billion yen budget (*2) for the fiscal year 2019 for the Project, with aims to equalize demand after the consumption tax hike, improve the productivity of relevant businesses, and increase the convenience of consumers through further dissemination of cashless payments. Consumers who have paid with PayPay during the above period will be rewarded with a PayPay Bonus (*3) of up to 3% of a payment at PayPay merchants that have applied for registration to this Project and have been registered as eligible stores.

Reward rate

Eligible stores run by small and medium-sized businesses: 5%

Eligible franchise chain stores run by small and medium-sized businesses: 2%

Reward method

A PayPay Bonus will be rewarded.

How to check a reward amount

When you tap an amount to be given on the completion screen to be displayed upon the completion of a payment with PayPay, you can check a reward amount based on the Project as well as breakdown of a PayPay Bonus and so on to be given at the same time.* The screen is subject to change.

Eligible Stores for Rewards

PayPay merchants listed in the Registered Member Merchants List on the official website (external link) of the Point Reward Project for Consumers using Cashless Payment or PayPay merchants where the following posters are placed.

  • Eligible Stores for a reward of 2%

  • Eligible Stores for a reward of 5%

Reward Period

From midnight on October 1, 2019 to 11:59 p.m. on June 30, 2020

* Even during this period, this campaign will start to be applied from an effective date notified after a PayPay merchant is registered to the Project.

Reward Date

Around the 20th day of a month following a month in which a payment is made

Reward Cap

25,000 yen per payment

25,000 yen per month (a total amount of a reward of 2% and a reward of 5%)

■Main features of PayPay

Users can choose a payment method from e-money topped up in advance (PayPay Balance) and credit cards and they can use PayPay for payments at PayPay merchants or for online services. For top-ups to PayPay Balance, users can top up online from their bank account and so on but also at nearby Seven Bank ATMs. In addition, PayPay offers various functions such as a function of sending and receiving PayPay Balance (PayPay Money Lite) between users and a function of “Warikan” or bill-splitting that is convenient for meals in a group setting.
