PayPay Corporation, a joint venture of SoftBank Group Corp., SoftBank Corp., and Yahoo Japan Corporation, hereby announces that the number of user registration of its smartphone payment service “PayPay” reached 25 million (*1) as of February 19, 2020. PayPay available places are now over 1.94 million (*2). The Number of payments in single month exceeded 100 million times (*3) as of December 2019.
Since the service launch in October 2018, registered users continue to increase as an outcome of initiatives such as the “10 Billion Yen Giveaway Campaign” and “Machikado PayPay Campaign” held with the Point Reward Project for Consumers using Cashless Payment which started in October 2019. “WakuWaku PayPay Campaign” is held every month to promote the app itself and provide convenience by supporting online shopping and bill payments. Thus, the service has developed from just a service with benefits into a service convenient and essential to users’ everyday life resulting in increase of numbers.
PayPay is scheduled to expand features and services that only smartphone payments can realize, such as the “mini app” which allows from ordering to payment to be completed within PayPay with the “payment” feature. PayPay will strive to create a society where people can buy anything through cashless payments in every corner of the country with a safe and secured service for our users and realize “shop and pay anytime, anywhere with PayPay” by evolving into a “super app.”

Users can choose from pre-charged PayPay balance or from credit cards and use at any PayPay merchants and online services. The availability of PayPay is rapidly expanding not only to large organized merchants, but also to small shops all over Japan. PayPay balance can be topped up online from bank accounts and at nearby Seven Bank ATMs. Various features such as “Send/Receive” PayPay balance (PayPay Money, PayPay Money Lite) and “Warkian” convenient for group meals are available as well.
