PayPay Corporation, a joint venture between Softbank Group Corp., Softbank Corp., and Yahoo Japan Corporation, will begin accepting applications from PayPay merchants for “PayPay Pickup” as of May 1, 2020, a service that will enable picking goods up from stores. “PayPay Pickup” is scheduled to become available as of June 2020.

PayPay Pickup is a service for restaurants who provide take-out menu items and for users who wish to utilize the take-out service of such restaurants. PayPay Pickup is a mobile order service that enables placing an order through “PayPay” from anywhere, whether from home, school or the office, before heading to the store and picking the order up without waiting.

Since this allows for an efficient take-out, it will reduce in-store wait times as well as contact with other customers to the minimum, helping to prevent the spread of diseases such as the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). In addition, it will help to reduce the effort involved in payments and increase sales opportunities being a cashless service as well as provide a mobile order service without any need for in-house development of an app. Another major benefit is the ability to avoid the risk of failing to collect money from customers who place an order but who do not show-up. “PayPay Pickup” can be applied for from the following service website for merchants. PayPay’s team will confirm the information registered through the application form and get in touch at a later date. Note that there is a prescribed screening process for the use of this service, and access may not be granted depending on the content of the application.

PayPay aims to promote the use of PayPay Pickup to a wide range of users and restaurants given the heightened demand for ready-made meals including take-out services to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

*The order may become unavailable for pickup if the user does not pick it up within 1h from receiving the notification signaling that it is ready to be handed over. In addition, the payment of the order will be completed after 6h from when said notification is received.
