Over 2,000 Applications from Merchants in 1 Month for Pre-Order Service “PayPay Pickup”

- Proposal of a new mode of business for restaurants who cannot operate as usual due to the novel coronavirus, from local restaurants to major companies -

PayPay Corporation, a joint venture of SoftBank Group Corp., SoftBank Corp., and Yahoo Japan Corporation is pleased to announce that more than 2,000 merchants have applied to use our pre-order service “PayPay Pickup” after 1 month from beginning to accept applications (*1).

“PayPay Pickup” is a mobile-order service that enabls using cashless payment service “PayPay” to place an order from within the app before picking the product up at the store. PayPay began receiving applications to use this service as of May 1, limited to restaurants providing pickup menu items and in a little less than 1 month, we have received more than 2,000 applications (*2).

The benefits for restaurants are manifold. Not only will this reduce the workload of payments given it is a cashless service, create new sales opportunities, and enable providing a mobile order service without any need to develop an app, it will enable avoiding the risk of failing to collect money from customers as they will be notified of the scheduled pickup time upon placing the pre-order to better ensure they come to the store.

Users using “PayPay Pickup” will have access to a more efficient take out experience, with a minimized wait time in the store as well as contact with other customers. The service has been released ahead of time with Wendy’s First Kitchen & First Kitchen in
limited stores, and other stores who have completed the screening process and application procedure will follow later in June. In addition, we will be launching a campaign in all applicable restaurants in Kakegawa City as of June 8 – the first campaignin the country for “PayPay Pickup” users.

Even during the concerning spread of the novel coronavirus, PayPay has strived to further enable the use of “PayPay” in many different scenes including online payments for delivery services such as “Uber Eats” and “Demaecan” as well as bill payments covering NHK subscrioption fees to Tokyo metropolitan government taxes. We will continue to provide new services like “PayPay Pickup” which allows “anywhere, anytime, with PayPay”, in aim to provide a service that can benefit all sorts of stores including shops across the country through to major merchants.
