“PayPay” Cash Top Ups Now Available at Lawson Bank ATMs

PayPay Corporation (President & Representative Director, CEO, Corporate Officer: Ichiro Nakayama) and Lawson Bank, Inc. (President, Representative Director: Masashi Yamashita; hereinafter “Lawson Bank”) have established a partnership on the use of “ATM Top Ups” ※1and are pleased to announce that cash top ups to “PayPay,” a cashless payment service provided by PayPay Corporation, is now available 24/7, 365 days ※3free of charge at any time during the day, from Lawson Bank ATMs installed at LAWSON stores across the country ※2.

Lawson Bank ATMs are located at Lawson stores and other commercial facilities nationwide, as well as at transportation hubs such as train stations and airports. Through the significant increase in the number of ATMs that enable cash top ups to “PayPay” ※3, users can enjoy the convenience of topping up to the PayPay app more easily than ever before.

* 3 Points of caution when using Lawson Bank ATMs:

  • Only banknotes can be used.
  • Example: To top up 3,000 yen (deposit), insert 3,000 yen. If a 10,000 yen note is inserted into the ATM, the user will not receive 7,000 yen change.
    10,000 yen will be topped up (deposited) in full.
  • Top ups cannot be cancelled or refunded once completed.
  • The service is not available for about 15 minutes between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. for system maintenance purposes.
  • Details about the available services and hours can be checked from the ATM priori to using the service.
  • Even if it is during the available hours of the ATM, if the store itself is not open 24 hours a day, the top up service is not available outside of the store’s business hours.

1. How to use​

Users can top up to “PayPay” using cash from a Lawson Bank ATM.

※The corporation number for “PayPay” when topping up is “8439”.

  2. PayPayアプリを立ち上げ「スキャン」を選択
  3. QRコードをPayPayアプリで読み取り
  4. 企業番号をATMのボタンで入力
  5. 紙幣をまとめて投入
  6. アプリの残高をご確認ください

※ Top ups are available in increments of 1,000 yen and above. Also, the limit on cash top ups to “PayPay” is 500,000 yen per 24 hours.

※ Regardless of the available hours, the service may be suspended for a certain period for system maintenance purposes.

※Users can check their PayPay balance on the “PayPay” app.​ ​

* “PayPay” provides 4 types of PayPay balance: PayPay Money, PayPay Money Lite, PayPay Bonus and PayPay Bonus Lite. PayPay Money can be used to pay for partner services and merchants as long as it is within the amount deposited into the PayPay account opened after completing an identity verification process. It can also be used for sending and receiving money between PayPay users free of charge. PayPay Money can also be cashed out to a designated bank account (no withdrawal fee if using The PayPay Bank). The legal nature of this is an electromagnetic record which can be used to pay for goods and other services, and can be remitted or cashed out, issued by the Company who is a Fund Transfer Operator registered under Article 37 of the Act on Fund payment. PayPay Money Lite is an electronic money issued by PayPay, which can be purchased and used to pay for services and merchants. PayPay users can transfer and receive PayPay Money Lite free of charge. The legal nature of this is a prepaid payment instrument issued by PayPay (Article 3, Paragraph 1 of the Payment Services Act). In addition, PayPay Bonus and PayPay Bonus Lite, which are granted through campaigns and promotions when using PayPay, can be used for partner services and merchants in addition to PayPay Money and PayPay Money Lite.  However, PayPay Bonus and PayPay Bonus Lite cannot be sent or transferred between PayPay users or be cashed out. PayPay Bonus Lite has an expiration date, after which date it will expire.

PayPay also strives to create a safe and secure environment for users. If an unexpected payment is made by a third party using a PayPay account, or if a request to settle a payment suddenly arrives from PayPay to a user that does not have a PayPay account, there is a scheme that ensures compensation for the damages suffered (the difference will be provided as compensation if compensation is also provided by a third party), given that the prescribed conditions are met.
