PayPay Card’s security measures:“PayPay Card Safe Usage Guide”
PayPay Card Corporation(Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & Representative Director: Tomoaki Tanida; hereinafter “PayPay Card”)and PayPay Corporation(President & Representative Director, CEO, Corporate Officer: Ichiro Nakayama; hereinafter “PayPay”)are pleased to announce that you can now check information such as the card numbers and security codes of your PayPay Cards(including PayPay Card Gold)on the home screen of the cashless payment service “PayPay” as of October 2024.(※1※2※3)。

The information of the numberless credit card “PayPay Card” has always been available to check through the PayPay Card miniapp(※4), but by displaying it on the home screen of “PayPay,” it can now be confirmed in as little as 4 seconds(※5).”This increases the convenience of PayPay Card members by allowing them to find their info more easily and smoothly when they need to input it for online shopping and other payments, while maintaining the high level of security that hallmarks numberless cards. Furthermore, this feature will be delivered in a safe environment which maintains a level of security based on the PCI DSS(Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), the standard in the credit card industry.
On top of 24/7, 365 monitoring by a fraud detection system, “PayPay Card” has systems enabling users to use their cards safely and with peace of mind, including issuing numberless cards that do not have card number, expiry, or security code printed on them, and providing a “Card Usage Report” allowing them to instantly detect fraudulent use.(※6) There is also a “PayPay Card Safe Usage Guide,” content that allows cardholders to check their own “safety level.” By checking their “safety level,” which is based on things such as whether they have set their own card usage limit with the “Safe Usage Limits” feature and whether they know they can suspend their card at any time 24/7 from the members’ menu if it is lost or stolen, users can use their “PayPay Card” with even greater peace of mind.
Recently, fraudulent credit card use by malicious third parties such as card theft, misuse, and phishing fraud, is occurring frequently and the fraud rate across the credit card industry from January to June 2024 remained high at 0.055%. *7 However, the fraud rate on “PayPay Card” during the same period has been pushed down to below one-third at 0.016%. *8.
