PayPay Corporation (hereinafter PayPay) is pleased to announce that PayPay Gift will be launched on October 16, 2025, enabling users to send to friends and family digital gift vouchers that can be used at eligible merchants. The sender may freely set, in one-yen increments, the amount of the gift voucher,*1 and can send it with a preferred design and message, such as “Thank you,” or “Good job,” via the Send/Receive feature in the PayPay app.*2 It can be used in a wide range of situations, from small tokens of appreciation for close ones, to celebrations of birthdays and life events, spanning everyday moments to special occasions.*3
PayPay Gift is a digital gift voucher, and the sender only needs to select the eligible merchant, of whose gift voucher he or she wants to send to a friend, without specifying any product. The recipient of the voucher may freely choose products from a broad lineup offered by the merchants.*4 In addition, whereas conventional paper gift vouchers involve the hassle of carrying, storing, and presenting them at stores, PayPay Gift can be used within the PayPay app.

*2. PayPay Gift can be purchased with PayPay Balance, PayPay Points, and PayPay Credit. When purchasing PayPay Gift, the transaction will count toward the benefits of PayPay STEP and PayPay Points will also be granted. However, when making a payment using a PayPay Gift Voucher received via PayPay Gift, neither applies. In addition, the maximum amount that can be sent varies depending on the status of identity verification (eKYC) in the PayPay app. For details, please check here.

PayPay Gift can be sent from the “Send” icon, or from the newly added “Gift” icon, on the home screen of the PayPay app. Users who receive PayPay Gift will have a PayPay Gift Voucher automatically added to the payment methods in the app. If PayPay Gift Voucher is set as the highest-priority payment method, it will be used preferentially for payments at eligible merchants.*5
The value on the gift vouchers received via PayPay Gift do not need to be exhausted in a single payment, and any remaining amount can be used for the next payment. In addition, up to two vouchers can be used together, and if the PayPay Gift Voucher balance is insufficient for payment, other payment methods can also be used in combination.*6 The gift vouchers received via PayPay Gift are valid for 180 days, and push notifications will be sent to remind users of the expiration date, which helps prevent forgetting to use the vouchers*7

Merchants can adopt PayPay Gift without requiring any new system development or changes to operations at the cash register.*9 In addition, unlike traditional sales promotion initiatives, PayPay Gift can increase awareness and the service user base from user to user within PayPay. As a result, it is expected to acquire segments that could not be approached through advertisements, campaigns, or the like. PayPay Gift will commence service with the following as eligible merchants, and the number of merchants is scheduled to continue expanding.
