Guide page for Overseas Payment Mode
PayPay Corporation (hereinafter “PayPay”) will begin offering in Taiwan from late April 2026*1 the Overseas Payment Mode, which allows the use of the PayPay app overseas. This is the second installment of the initiative to expand use scenarios overseas, following South Korea in September 2025.*2
Payments with “PayPay” will be possible in Taiwan at places displaying the “TWQR” logo, and users will be able to use key features such as balance top-ups,*3 among others. Furthermore, amounts paid overseas can be checked in Japanese yen immediately,*4 and in conjunction with the launch in Taiwan, a new exchange rate calculator has been added, so users can use “PayPay” in Taiwan with the same experience and convenience as in Japan.

Since launching Overseas Payment Mode in South Korea in September 2025, user demand for its availability in other countries and regions has been increasing. In Taiwan, “PayPay” payments can be made at more than approximately 400,000 locations, such as convenience stores, restaurants, and other merchants through the international network of HIVEX®.
PayPay Points will also be granted for purchases in Taiwan.*5 Moreover, from March 31, 2026, PayPay Scratch Lottery has been available for extra PayPay Points for overseas payments, and users can enjoy shopping, dining, and more in a cost-effective and convenient manner just as they do with the PayPay app in Japan.
In conjunction with the launch of this service, discounts for PayPay users are scheduled to be provided at Taiwan FamilyMart (全家便利商店) and HiLife (萊爾富), both major convenience store chains in Taiwan. Additionally, preloaded EasyCards (悠遊卡)*6 are scheduled to be offered at airports in Taiwan for purchases with the PayPay app.
Payments in Overseas Payment Mode, as in Japan, support both consumer-presented mode (CPM) and merchant-presented mode (MPM), as well as payments with the red screen (PayPay Balance) and the blue screen (PayPay Credit). When making a purchase, users can pay at stores simply by showing the payment screen of the PayPay app to cashiers, which will display a payment request written in the local language.
If users have completed identity verification (eKYC) in Japan, their app will automatically switch to Overseas Payment Mode after they arrive at their destination.*7
To ensure safe use, only users who have completed identity verification (eKYC) can use Overseas Payment Mode. Even while staying overseas, users’ data are strictly stored and retained on servers in secure environments as they are in Japan. In addition, neither HIVEX® nor local services or merchants receive any information that can identify users, and no such information is linked, shared with, or provided to them. To prevent unauthorized use, logins from new devices while overseas are not permitted, and only the device used in Japan is allowed.
PayPay will continue to expand its services overseas so that users can conveniently make payments anytime, anywhere with the ubiquitous and daily-used PayPay app.
