PayPay Corporation, a joint venture of SoftBank Group Corp., SoftBank Corp., and Yahoo Japan Corporation is pleased to announce the start of a consultation service for local governments as of June 17, 2020, in the wake of the serious damage caused by the spread of COVID-19 throughout Japan, aiming to help implement economic measures and support the livelihood of local residents through campaigns utilizing “PayPay.”

PayPay already has a track record of various campaigns in collaboration with local governments, as well as supporting payment of utility bills. In particular, when implementing the joint campaigns, the use of “PayPay” by local governments not only eliminates the need to issue, redeem and print local promotion tickets and gift vouchers, but also enables users to participate in the campaigns more easily and safely, without going out to a place with crowds of people to purchase the vouchers . In this way, we have been able to bring a win-win situation between the residents and local governments. At present, we have received inquiries about joint campaigns from approximately 100 local governments. Working closely with many local governments such as Chichibu City (Saitama Pref.), Kakegawa City and Hamamatsu City (Shizuoka Pref.), we will continue to help revitalize local economies.
In addition, PayPay’s sales team has been engaged in community-based activities across Japan, including the onboarding of stores to “PayPay”, and providing various types of support according to local demand. Going forward, PayPay, which has more than 2.2 million (*1) merchants and 28 million (*2) registered users nationwide, will continue to cooperate with local governments to help revitalize the economy. By doing so, we will support the lives of stores and residents in regions affected by the spread of COVID-19, implementing measures to “revitalize regional areas”.

■ Bill Payments using PayPay
“PayPay Bill Payment” is a service that enables users to scan a barcode on the bill (payment slip) using the
PayPay app and pay utility fees then and there, including electricity, gas, and water fees as well as mail-order invoices. Collaborating with local governments across the country has made it possible for users to make a hassle-free payment anytime and anywhere, even at home, around the clock. Please check here for supported local governments.
PayPay, amid growing concerns about the spread of COVID-19, has started to support online payments for delivery services such as “Uber Eats” and “Demae-can.” We also have launched a service called “PayPay Pickup,” a pre-order service for restaurants providing take-outs, aiming to help various organizations working hard to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to take actions, considering how PayPay can contribute to society in the future.
