PayPay Card Corporation (hereinafter “PayPay Card”) and PayPay Corporation (hereinafter “PayPay”) are pleased to announce that, starting April 9, 2025, icons for contactless payments—Apple Pay, Google Pay™, and QUICPay—have been newly added to the Transaction History*1 in the PayPay app, which can be viewed after payments are made using PayPay Card (including PayPay Card Gold; the same applies hereinafter).*2, *3 With this update, the payment method used when paying with PayPay Card is indicated by an icon, for a more convenient PayPay Card experience, better security, and peace of mind. Further, from mid-April onward, the icons are scheduled to be added in the billing statement within the PayPay Card mini app.*4

Under the slogan, “Pay Freely, Any Way You Like,” PayPay Card provides various payment methods using PayPay Card, including PayPay Credit (see the table below). When any of the payment methods below was used with PayPay Card,*5 details were immediately displayed in the Transaction History within the PayPay app. However, there have been only two icons which distinguished PayPay Credit or PayPay Card payments. With the addition of contactless payment icons—Apple Pay, Google Pay™, and QUICPay—users can now identify which payment method was used when paying with PayPay Card, enabling a better user experience.

The feature that allows users to immediately check payment details from the Transaction History in the PayPay app when using PayPay Card has been well received since its launch in March 2024. Going forward, PayPay Card and PayPay will continue to promote initiatives that lead to safer, more secure, and more convenient card use.
【What users can do from Transaction History when using PayPay Card at credit card merchants】

– Distinguish payment methods used with PayPay Card by icons
*The PayPay app must be updated to the latest version (5.1.0 or later). After updating the app, the icons will be displayed for eligible transaction data sent by merchants to PayPay Card on or after March 17.

– After payment, immediately check the payment amount and store (including the logo)
– Check the PayPay Points scheduled to be granted
– Use PayPay features such as “Split This Payment” and “Add Receipt for Reimbursement”
As of March 2025, the number of registered PayPay Credit users exceeded 10 million, which is approximately 80% of valid PayPay Card members. When paying with PayPay Credit, PayPay payments can be paid in a lump sum the following month, and the PayPay STEP grant rate increases from 1.0% to a maximum of 1.5% (for PayPay Balance payments, from 0.5% to a maximum of 1.0%),*6 allowing for users to earn more PayPay Points. In addition, users can immediately check PayPay Card usage notifications from the PayPay Transaction History, making PayPay Card and PayPay more convenient and synergistic.
*6. Points will be granted for every 200 yen increment. However, certain transactions, such as top-ups to PayPay Balance, are not eligible. For more details, visit the PayPay STEP page.

* “PayPay” offers four types of electronic money and other services: PayPay Money, PayPay Money Lite, PayPay Points, and PayPay Gift Vouchers.
PayPay Money can be used to pay for partner services and merchants if it is within the amount deposited into the PayPay account opened after completing an identity verification process. It can also be used for sending and receiving money between PayPay users free of charge. PayPay Money can also be transferred to a designated bank account (no transfer fee if using PayPay Bank). The legal nature of this is an electromagnetic record which can be used to pay for goods and other services, and can be remitted or cashed out, issued by the Company who is a Fund Transfer Operator registered under Article 37 of the Payment Services Act. PayPay Money (Paycheck) refers to PayPay Money that can only be purchased with wages received by the PayPay user in their Paycheck Account. Based on the provisions of Article 43 of the Payment Services Act, PayPay protects the debt it owes to its users by depositing assets equivalent to or higher than the debt amount. PayPay Money Lite is an electronic money issued by PayPay, which can be purchased and used to pay for services and merchants. PayPay users can transfer and receive PayPay Money Lite free of charge. The legal nature of this is a prepaid payment instrument issued by PayPay (Article 3, Paragraph 1 of the Payment Services Act). Based on the provisions of Article 14 of the Payment Services Act, PayPay preserves the relevant assets for the purpose of protecting the owners of the prepaid payment instrument by providing a security deposit for issuance to the Legal Affairs Bureau in an amount that is half or more of the unused balance of prepaid instrument methods as of March 31 and September 30. In addition, PayPay Points, which are granted through campaigns and promotions when using PayPay, can be used for partner services and in transactions at merchants in addition to PayPay Money and PayPay Money Lite. However, PayPay Points (Time Limited) are limited to payments for certain services offered by the LY Corporation group. They cannot be transferred to other users or cashed out. Moreover, PayPay Points (Time Limited) have an expiration date. For details on the expiration date, see the conditions of the LY Corporation group’s measures and campaigns. PayPay Gift Voucher is a type of electronic money issued by PayPay that can be obtained and used for payments at designated partner services and merchants specified for the relevant PayPay Gift Voucher. However, it cannot be transferred to other users or cashed out. PayPay Gift Vouchers have an expiration date. If charges that the user does not recognize occur due to unauthorized use by a third party on the user’s PayPay account, PayPay may provide compensation for the damage amount (after deducting any amount compensated by a third party), provided that prescribed compensation conditions are met.
